Weekend Update

Usually on Sunday, my boyfriend and I try to drive somewhere a little out of town to go for a hike with the dogs. I was really looking forward to it this weekend as the sun has been shining and the snow has been melting and it's really starting to feel like spring. We've been going out to the same area all winter, so we decided to try something new and started driving in the opposite direction towards Likely, hoping to come across a trail to head down.

We drove for a while before finding the "World Famous Bullion Pit Mine," so of course we had to turn off and check it out as we had never heard of this 8th wonder. We read the sign board, stared at the gaping hole in the earth, marvelled at the massive use of water used in the name of finding gold, looked left and right for a trail to walk on, and got back on the road.

Just passed the town of Likely we found a miniscule "Class C Provincial Park" which was nice spot to stretch our legs, but didn't offer any real hiking. At the Visitor's Centre we found a pamphlet for Quesnel Forks - A Ghost Town - and all thoughts of hiking were quickly abandoned.

Unfortunately, we didn't have a camera with us. The buildings are slowly being repaired, in this little town that was at one time the biggest "city" north of San Francisco with a population of 2000! It was pretty cool to walk around, and after finding one piece of broken pottery, we had to keep looking for more "artifacts." We came across a lot of broken glass, an old shoe, and some bottle caps, but alas, no stash of gold.

No hike, no new riches, but a fun little adventure nonetheless!

I was waiting for a phone call all morning for work and finally decided to just pack my cell phone, a pen and some paper with me on my run. Of course, the call came about 10 minutes in, so I stopped, stopped my watch, took the call, then got back to running. The result of the phone call was that I needed to get home to make another call, so I cut my route short, but made the most of it by running as hard as I could for the rest of the way. Unfortunately, I forgot to restart my watch, so I have no idea how quickly I covered those final kms. Let's just say I broke land-speed records and leave it at that. Ha!
