These were my March goals:
1) By the end of the month I will be able to run 8.8 miles or 14 kms.
Achieved! I ran 14 kms this past weekend.
2) I will run 4 times a week and will go to yoga once a week.
Almost achieved. I missed one run last week and did not reschedule it or make up for it. I went to all of my yoga classes, but 2 weeks were cancelled due to Spring Break. I wish I could say I did some yoga on my own, but I didn't.
3) I will do interval training on the treadmill once a week. By the end of the month, my fast interval will be 7.0.
Surpassed this goal! Last week my fast interval was 7.3, or 8:20 per mile which is a big improvement from where I started. This week I didn not do intervals, but tried a hill workout instead. More on that later...
Overall, I feel good about March. I've seen big improvements from where I was a month ago, and I know I'm pushing myself harder than I did when I trained for last fall's half marathon. I've also lost 4 lbs. I didn't start running with this goal in mind, and don't really want to lose more weight, but it kinda makes me feel like I've done something more this month as I didn't lose any weight at all in February which was a bit of a surprise after 3 months of sedentary lazy-assness.
After Sunday's near-death experience on THE HILL, and today's first attempt at hill training since running cross country in grade 10, I know I need to spend more time running on hills between now and the half marathon in Vancouver on May 2nd.
By the end of April I will be able to run the half marathon distance.
In April, I will continue to run 4 times per week, including one interval session on the treadmill, and will run up THE HILL or another similar hill at least 2 times per week. I will continue to increase this distance of my long run each weekend. I will also add a cross training workout to every week by doing Deep Water Running, Aquacize, or another aerobics class of some sort at the rec centre beyond my usual Wednesday night yoga.
Sounds like a very successful month! Congrats on running farther AND faster, and losing weight too. Good luck in April! You're on a roll.
