Today wasn't my fastest run ever, but it was my fastest run on a hilly route at any distance over 5 km. How did I do it? You, too, can improve your pace with these easy steps:
1) Go to a town or area that you don't know very well and where you don't usually run.
2) Have an appointment scheduled one hour after you start your run that you will need to shower and look presentable for. Leave one or two other things that need to be done before your appointment (like finding directions to it) for after your run for good measure.
3) Start running on a hunt for hills. Take turns up any street that offers an incline of any kind, steep or long and gradual.
4) Get completely lost but keep running.
5) Ask someone for directions to Second Ave. When the person tells you that the street you are on IS Second Ave., make up for looking stupid by impressing them with your sprinting skills and sprint the long, straight stretch home.
Phew!
Made it home, showered, got directions, grabbed a snack, AND made it to the appointment on time after running 7.2 hilly kms including a sprint to the finish.
I have another appointment at 11 am tomorrow in the same town. I might try this again...
Ha ha, I have totally done the get lost thing:) I was at a huge park preserve and even had a map...still got lost...LOL!! Nice job on you run Amy!
