Day One

I am going to run a marathon. I have not decided when, or where, but I'm going to do it.

I started to train yesterday. I ran for 30 minutes and went 3 miles plus a warm up and cool down. At that pace, it would take me 4 hours and 22 minutes to run the marathon distance, IF I could keep that pace going for 4 hours and 22 minutes, which I definitely couldn't have done yesterday, hence the training.

I have 3 options for running a marathon in 2010, which is the ultimate goal, and one fall back plan. There's the Vancouver Marathon in early May, which I don't think is realistic, given that since running a half marathon in October I have had exactly 7 days with any sort of physical exertion beyond yoga class and walking around the grocery store which included one other run on a treadmill and 6 outings to cross country ski.

Option two is the Okanagan Marathon in Kelowna in October which may be a more realistic timeline if I get my act in gear now.

Option three is the Victoria Marathon which is also in October, and although it would be further to travel to the Island to run, it is also the flattest course imaginable and according to the website more people run personal bests at that marathon than any other in the WORLD. Not that I would have a best to beat, but at least I'd have a better chance of finishing with a respectable time. Does that sound lazy? Can I be a lazy marathon runner?

The fall back plan is to run the Vancouver Marathon in 2011, but that seems so far off that it seems more realistic that I would be able to train for October and then have a few winter months of slacking off rather than sustain training for 15 months straight. Yep, I'm definitely the laziest runner alive.
